How we approach a valuation engagement
The engagement should make clear what is being evaluated, which information is needed, and how the analysis will be used. We establish those points before developing the work.
Define the decision and scope
We identify the transaction or arrangement, the valuation date, intended use, subject entities or individuals, and required conclusions. Related compensation, business, asset, or service-fee questions are identified together.
Understand the agreement and information
We review the relevant terms and financial or operating data, identify material gaps, and reconcile information needed for the analysis. The scope determines whether separate providers, locations, roles, or scenarios require distinct work.
Research the question in front of us
Some assignments call for several methods or evidence beyond a standard set of benchmarks. We identify the relevant markets, resources, or rights and explain how the available evidence informs the analysis.
Develop the appropriate analysis
We select the methods and market evidence relevant to the question. The analysis connects the services, operating assumptions, or asset rights with the value or payment being evaluated.
Discuss assumptions and findings
We address material assumptions and questions with the client and its advisors. Working discussions, substantive revisions, and presentations can be included in the agreed engagement.
Document the conclusion
The deliverable identifies its purpose, scope, assumptions, methods, and conclusion. If the transaction or arrangement changes, we assess what needs to be updated.
Define fees around the work
The proposed fee reflects the analytical scope and agreed deliverables, including distinct providers, models, arrangements, scenarios, and review requirements. We identify the information needed to quote the project.
